This fortified wine comes from the Portuguese Madeira Islands. Produced in various styles, from dry to sweet, Madeira is excellent as an apéritif or paired with desserts.
Dating to the 15th century, Madeira is known for its unique winemaking process that oxidizes the wine through heat and aging. This process has changed little in 300 years and gives Madeira a unique taste that comes from heating.
Madeira has flavors of caramel, walnut oil, peach, hazelnut, orange peel, and burnt sugar, with Paul Masson, Henriques & Henriques Rainwater, and Sandeman Fine Rich Madeira among the favorites.
