This is not a white wine. At all. It’s a Rosé. Or at least a sibling of the Rosé family. It is made of Zinfandel grapes – a black-skinned grape - and falls between off-dry and moderately sweet. The story goes that White Zinfandels were created by Sutter Home Family Vineyards in 1975 by chance. Now it’s also made in Croatia and Italy.
White Zinfandel – which outsells Red Zinfandel by 6x - has a low alcohol and caloric content to go with its soothing fresh fruit and smoked spice flavors. Popular brands include Sutter Home White, Beringer White, and Gallo Family Vineyards.
