Port is short for Portugal because, well, that’s where it originated. Now, major Port brands are British. Shouldn’t it be called Brit? Go figure
Port is a sweet, fortified wine made from various aromatic grapes. It differs because the fermentation process stops when just 50% of the natural sugar has converted into alcohol. Not only is Port wine sweeter, it also has a higher alcohol content of 18-22%.
Two major styles of Port include a red Port with more berry and chocolate flavors (sweeter) and a tawny-colored Port with more caramel and nut flavors (less sweet).
Favorite brands include Taylor Fladgate 10-YR Tawny, Grahams Six Grapes Porto, and Sandeman Founders Reserve. These and more can be found at Bottlerover.com, where you’ll also find great prices on all our beverages. Each online wine and liquor purchase comes with free delivery. Fast delivery too – often within 1-hour.
