There are different types of whiskey or whisky depending on the region they are made in or the ingredients used.
American Whiskey is a whiskey made in the United states and is typically made from Corn, Barley, Wheat and Rye. Some of the popular brands include Jack Daniels, Southern Comfort, Jim Beam, Seagram’s, Evan Williams.
Irish Whiskey is a whiskey made in Ireland. They have typically smoother finish than their scotchish counterparts which is known as scotch. Some popular Irish whiskies include Jameson, Tullamore, Teeling, Redbreast, Bushmills, The sexton Single Malt Irish Whiskey, Knappogue Castle Single Malt Whiskey.
Rye Whiskey must be made of a mash that includes at least 51% of rye and must be distilled to no more than 80% abv and must be aged in charred new oak barrels. Some popular brands are Russell’s reserve, Angel’s envy, Wild Turkey, Whistlepig Rye, E.H Taylor.
Bourbon Whiskey must be made of a mash that includes at least 51% of corn. Although they can be made anywhere in the USA they are mostly made in Kentucky. Some of the most popular brands include Maker’s Mark, Bulleit, Jim Beam, Buffalo Trace, Eagle Rare, Blanton’s, Woodford Reserve, Elijah Craig, Four Roses, Pappy Van Winkle. Japanese Whiskey comes from Japan and come as Single Malts or Blends and more similar to scotch whiskey. Some of the popular brands are Yamazaki, Nikka, Suntory, Mars Whiskey Iwai, The Shin Japanese Malt Whiskey.
